 The
partnering organizations of LANS, LLC are dedicated to the support and
sustenance of the communities in which they work. Here are just a
few examples of community involvement projects:
- Launched Northern New Mexico Connect, an economic development program based on the highly successful
UC San Diego Connect model.
- Contributed $500,000 to establish a Pete V. Domenici Scholarships endowment through the LANL Foundation.
- Ran a highly successful Employee Giving Campaign in which employees gave a record-breaking $1.3 million, matched by LANS for a campaign total of $2.3 million.
- Initiated or renewed institutional agreements,
providing $100,000 each to the University of New
Mexico-Los Alamos for an Associates of Applied
Science technician training program, to New Mexico
Highlands University for a computer science program,
to Northern New Mexico College for teaching and
nursing programs, and to the Santa Fe Community
College for an Advanced Technologies training
program.
The Laboratory's Community Programs Office carries out the education, economic development, and charitable giving efforts
outlined in the
LANS Community Commitment Plan and takes a regional approach to ensure mutual benefit and program sustainability.The Community Programs Office is the lead organization for developing community support to accomplish LANL's national security and science mission by: (a) connecting LANL with Northern New Mexico, (b) providing clear communications, and (c) managing the LANS community investments.
